Haj Ibrahim Abu El Hawa is one of the founders of Jerusalem Peacemakers and the head of a large peacemaker community in the Holy Land. He comes from a long line of community fathers who have lived on the Mount of Olives since the days of the Umayyad Caliphate, the second of the four major Arab caliphates established after the death of Muhammad. (7th Century). Haj Ibrahim and his wife Naïma, a quiet and steady grandmother and hostess, welcome a continual stream of visitors to their open home.
Haj Ibrahim is called the ambassador of goodwill from the Mount of Olives because he has devoted his life to work for peace and reconciliation. Ibrahim works closely with the Jahalin Bedouin in the West Bank. He travels widely sharing the message that peace is possible between Israelis and Palestinians. He is a family man with many children and grandchildren. Haj Ibrahim is a walking philanthropist. He’s head of his family and a natural leader in his local community and the peacemaker community in the Holy Land. He melts people’s hearts, dissolving any reservations with sheer generosity of spirit. Haj Ibrahim facilitates the Jerusalem Peace House, a project of the Jerusalem Peacemakers that offers transitional housing and other aid to PeaceMakers visiting Jerusalem.
